A collector commutator is a moving part of a rotary electrical switch in electric motors and electrical generators that periodically reverses the current direction between the rotor and the external circuit. It consists of a cylinder composed of multiple metal contact segments on the rotating armature of the machine. The commutator is one component of a motor; there are also two or more stationary electrical contacts called "brushes" made of a soft conductor like carbon that press against the commutator, making sliding contact with successive segments of the commutator as it rotates.

コレクタ整流子は、DC モーター、発電機、ユニバーサル モーターで使用されます。モーターでは、整流子が巻線に電流を流します。回転する巻線の電流の向きを半回転ごとに反転させることで、安定した回転力（トルク）を発生します。発電機では、整流子は巻線で生成された電流を取り出し、半回転ごとに電流の方向を反転させ、巻線からの交流を外部負荷回路の一方向の直流に変換する機械的整流器として機能します。
